Why nowCrunchy, savory and room-temperature stable: the snack a long session actually needs, and a good first job for kids.

Ingredients
One batch: About 80 crackers.

Method
Pulse the cheese, butter, flour and salt in a food processor until it looks like coarse crumbs.
Add the water a tablespoon at a time, pulsing, until the dough clumps.
Look forSqueezed, it holds together. Add a teaspoon more water if it crumbles.
Divide into two discs, wrap and chill 30 minutes.
Heat the oven to 350°F. Roll each disc ⅛ inch thick between sheets of parchment. Sprinkle with the seasoning and press it in with the rolling pin.
Cut into 1-inch squares with a pizza cutter, move to parchment-lined sheets, and poke each with a skewer.
Bake 15 to 20 minutes, rotating the pans halfway.
Look forGolden at the edges. They crisp as they cool, so pull them before they brown all over.
Cool completely on the pans.
Make ahead

Holding

Allergens
Contains wheat, milk, sesame. Always check labels on packaged ingredients.
Notes
Not tagged card-safe until tested: cheese crackers can leave a little grease, and the seeds shed. Strict vegetarians: use a cheddar made with microbial rennet (most supermarket cheddar is).
Tavern Night
This dish's twist table (d6)
| 1–2 | The classic stands. No twist. Cook it as written. |
|---|---|
| 3 | Herb swap. Swap the seasoning for smoked paprika and dried thyme |
| 4 | Acid strike. Add 1 teaspoon dried mustard powder to the dough |
| 5 | Plating challenge. Cut with a small star or d6-shaped cutter |
| 6 | Host's boon. The Host picks any twist above, or the table invents one. The safety rule still applies. |
Roll before you start cooking. No twist ever changes a time, a temperature or how done something must be.
